Here are some answers to Frequently Asked Questions:
What Music am I listening to?
Every episode begins and ends with the same theme music: String Orchestra of New York City (SONYC) Visions and Miracles I all joy wills eternity, composed by Chris Theofanidis. This is the first track on the album, First Takes, by Albany Records.
Each episode also features ‘Bumper’ music at the beginning and end of segments, which rotates from week to week. This music comes from our collection of science fiction film and TV show soundtracks, and sometimes some science music makes it into the mix. (We have enough soundtracks that the same music won’t be played twice in a year.) The bumpers add a unique flavor to each episode, and the whole show. If Science Itself had a soundtrack, what else would it be?
Where is it recorded?
Episodes up to Episode 74 were recorded live in the KDRT-LP studio in Davis, CA.
Episodes 75 and up are recorded in the Haro von Mogel Studio (aka the second bedroom) in Madison, WI.
Why are there episodes missing from the list?
For various time-crunch reasons, some past episodes were not uploaded on time. Rather than have a backlog the next episode was uploaded on time. So there are a few gaps. The shows still exist, though, and we will be uploading them bit by bit to fill in the spaces. Some good news segments and interviews were missed but they will be online soon!
Why is the first episode numbered zero?
The Mindcast started as The Inoculated Mind Radio, before it also became a podcast. The radio shows before podcasting did not have numbers, so Karl thought it would be funny to make the first podcast episode number zero. Thus, when the pre-podcast episodes are uploaded, they will count backward from zero. Yes, Negative episodes!
Who is Evil J. Klone?
Information on Evil J. Klone is hard to come by. We never seem to be able to find him, however, he seems to have no problem interfering in the show when he wishes. Past incidents have included jamming the KDRT radio signal in the middle of the show, locking Karl in the bathroom during a break to take over during an interview, and calling in to gloat over plotting to have KDRT wiped off the radio dial by an encroaching station. He seems preoccupied by an allegedly purposeless and meaningless existence, and abuses science for his own benefit. There is one thing we know about him, though, his first name is prnounced “Eh-ville.”
