The Mindcast for your Station

The Inoculated Mind Mindcast is a labor of love – for science. As it currently stands it is a non-commercial, non-profit operation. We have secured permission for the opening and closing theme music that depends upon the show being non-commercial as well. That’s great for the listener because radio (and podcast) ads are just about the most annoying ads that exist.

It also means that the Mindcast could be very easily added to your local community radio station lineup without much trouble. If your favorite station is a non-commercial station such as an LP-FM station or student station, the Mindcast might be an ideal addition to bring science content to your area. Best of all, it would be free. Since we got our start in Low-Power FM community radio, it will always be free for noncommercial stations.

Current format of The Mindcast:

Each episode is recorded to fill one hour of radio programming, allowing for a two-minute break in the middle and at the beginning/end for station announcements and/or underwriters. Each half-hour segment is 28 minutes long, 56 minutes in total. The podcast format sandwiches these two together as one file. If you are interested in playing the Mindcast on your station, we can provide the two segments as separate 28-minute files that you can easily add to your automation system, or simply play during a timeslot.

The first segment of each episode will likely have a lead-in, advertising what’s coming in the second segment. This could present some problems for stations that would like to carry just the half-hour news segment. If you really want just a half hour segment for your station, we may be able to work something out, but we recommend taking the whole show as one piece – the interviews and discussion in the second half-hour are what really make the show different.

Here is the structure of the show, give or take a few seconds here and there.

First segment (28 minutes):

Theme Music and show title for 45 seconds. News and announcements for 27 minutes, including ‘Bumper’ music. 15 seconds of outgoing music at the end of the segment.

Second Segment (28 mintues):

“Chemical Commercial” for 30 seconds to 2 minutes, followed by 24 minutes of interview, or additional discussion of news and issues. Closing remarks and Bumper music to fill remaining time. End theme music for 45 seconds.

Station IDs and timeslot ads:

Should you decide that you want to broadcast the show on your station, we can make you some Station IDs and clips to advertise the timeslot that the show plays in. Whether you want them funny or serious, musical or echoey, we’ll make it fit the style of your station.
